Visiting Hokkaido

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

For those who have never visited Japan but are thinking they'd like to, there's never been a better time. Since 2003 with its 'Yokoso Japan' or 'Visit Japan' campaign, the Japanese government has been investing in Japan's tourism infrastructure, creating programs and tours that are tourist-friendly and help to overcome the language barrier for those that don't speak Japanese.

There are a great many English-language websites for finding travel info on Japan, but here are the main government sites:

Yokoso Japan

The Japan National Tourism Association

And for Hokkaido, the Hokkaido Tourism Organization

There are also some good deals on flights to Japan these days, and ever since the collapse of the bubble economy in the early '90's Japan has getting more affordable compared to North America or Europe. With places like Niseko opening up and bringing in more tourists, the tourism infrastructure is naturally developing as well.
